Governors
The Governing Body of Winkfield St Mary's Church of England Primary School
The governors of Winkfield St Mary’s are a group of people who have a strong interest in the school and in education, and who are responsible for the overall management of the school. For example, they make sure that the pupils are taught the national curriculum, that the school spends its money wisely and that the school buildings are kept in good repair. They make policy decisions about staffing, health and safety, collective worship, the curriculum and many other things that affect the running of the school. Governors work very closely with the Head Teacher.
Winkfield St Mary has a constitution of 13 governors of which a minimum of 2 must be represented by the Parent body and each term of office for each governor is usually held for 4 years:
- 2 elected by parents of children at the school
- 2 appointed by the church authorities
- 1 nominated by the local education authority
- 1 member of school staff elected by the staff
- The Head Teacher
- 6 co-opted members of the local community, appointed by the Governing Body for their skills & experience
The governing body invites additional people to become associate members from time to time. They do not have voting rights, but bring specific skills or experience to meetings. For details of our current governors, see our "Meet The Governors" page.
Governing Body STRUCTURE AND COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES
Governance is delivered through the Full Governing Body which usually meets ten times a year and its supporting committees. There is one committee for Finance which meets three times a year and two special purpose committees for reviewing Pay and the Headteacher's target setting and performance management.
The Finance Committee focuses on finance, budgeting and monitoring of expenditure, personnel matters and premises including health and safety.
The Clerk to the Governing Body can be contacted via the school with any queries you may have about the governing body, or if you want to know more about becoming a governor. Any queries regarding individual children should always be discussed with the class teacher or Head Teacher in the first instance
